Tap Service Vs Tap Replacement
When your taps start to leak the first and most logical response would be to change the washer. However, depending on the age of your Northern Beaches property and the current condition of your taps simply replacing the washer will not fix the leaking tap.
The reason your tap is leaking is over time the minerals in Sydney’s water supply erode the zinc from the brass seat causing small divots and cracks. The brass seat is what the washer pushes against creating that seal when the tap is closed. A new washer will not fix this issue and we would recommend a Tap Service or Tap Replacement.
What is a Tap Service? A Tap Service is when we completely disassemble the tap spindle and grind or re-seat the brass seat to remove those divots. We also install new heavy duty washers and new o-rings to the spindle. Our plumbers will also grease the spindles and clean the threads. This can in most cases fix the leak, but in 10% of cases the drip can persist.
In this case our plumbers would recommend to replace your existing tap with a new tap set. You could upgrade to ¼ turn Ceramic Disk spindles. These are easier to clean, require a lot less maintenance and offer a modern design look for your Northern Beaches home.

Mixer Taps
Most Northern Beaches homes and North Shore businesses prefer to replace their old separate hot and cold tap sets for a new stylish easy to use Mixer Tap.
A Flick Mixer uses a Ceramic disk Cartridge to control the flow and temperature of the water. The ceramic disk cartridge, which is plastic, over time can crack and break causing the tap to leak. On most occasions, it is more economical to simply replace a sink or basin mixer with a new model. Unfortunately, with a mixer mounted on the wall like a shower or bath, this is not possible.
At Eze-Flow Plumbing, we stock a variety of sizes and models of replacement mixer cartridges to replace on the spot. Like anything each brand and model has its own cartridge and its impossible to stock every cartridge however we can always source and order in the exact cartridge needed and have your tap working as quickly as possible.
