GRATE CHANNEL DRAINS
Grate channel drains are also known as strip drains. They are a popular type of surface drainage system for North Shore and Northern Beaches homes. A grate channel drain is long and narrow and is covered by a grate. The grate is usually made from metal, plastic or even precast concrete and are commonly used along pathways and driveways.
They are considered to be superior to traditional round drains. This is because they have an increased catchment area to enable more efficient stormwater collection. As a result, they are very effective at catching large volumes of water and channeling it directly into your stormwater system and away from your home.
A major advantage of grate drains is that they don’t require too much excavation. However, they still need to be installed correctly. In particular, they need to be built at the best level to catch any pooling water. For example, if they are placed too high, they won’t be able to catch the water.

SUBSOIL DRAINS
Subsoil drains are known by a few different names – including French drain and aggy drain. This type of drain is installed to expel excess water in soil under and around your North Shore or Northern Beaches home.
Once the trench has been dug, the trench is back filled with blue stone aggregate and has a perforated pipe, known as aggy line, laid inside the trench. It is then wrapped in a geo-textitle fabric to prevent the trench from becoming blocked with silt.
