Signs That You Have A Leaking Toilet

A leaking toilet, no matter what the cause, is a job for an emergency plumber. That’s why we provide 24/7 same day service for all leaking toilet repairs. Don’t risk wasting precious water and get bill shock the next time you get your water bill!

A leaking toilet may be a simple fix – such as a leaking washer or a failing toilet valve or it may be a sign of a more complex issue.

Cistern Constantly Running

If your toilet is constantly running and the cistern fills up, then it is likely there is a faulty inlet valve.

When the inlet valve is broken, it means water constantly fills up the cistern. The water goes down the overflow point causing  a leak into the toilet bowl.

Slow Water Leak

This leak is usually caused by a faulty outlet valve. When the outlet valve is faulty, it causes water to leak into the bowl. Often this type of leak is slow, so it may not be noticed at first.

You will hear the cistern filling up every few minutes as the water level consistently drops causing the inlet valve to refill the cistern every few minutes

Leak Behind The Toilet Bowl

A leak behind the toilet bowl is usually the caused by the foam cistern seal or the pan collar rubber being lose. The cistern seal is between the cistern and pan, it prevents leaking every time you flush. The pan collar rubber is where the pan connects into the waste pipe, when this leaks it’s soiled waste water.

How To Spot a Leaking Toilet

It is not always obvious that you have a leaking toilet. However, the sooner you find out you have a leaking toilet the better. Here are some tips on regular checks you can do to spot a leaking toilet before it becomes a major problem

TIP ONE -Do Regular Checks

Do regular checks of your toilet (as well as taps, showerhead and hot water systems). In particular, check for hissing noises that may indicate a leak.

TIP TWO - Easy Check for a Leaking Cistern

Place a small sheet of toilet paper at the back of a dry toilet bowl. Next time you use the toilet, check if the paper is damp. If it is, you may have a leaking cistern.

TIP THREE - Do a Visual Check

Lift the toilet seat up and look at the water, is the water still or rippling? Rippling would indicate a slow leak.

Planning on Renovating your Bathroom?

We provide advice on the best toilet system for your home or office.

At Eze-Flow Plumbing we always recommend you speak with a plumber before you purchase a new toilet suite on your own. Not all toilets can fit the layout of the existing plumbing of a bathroom. Things to consider include position of the waste pipe, style of waste, water point location, and the footprint of the old toilet.

Time for a new toilet or a modern update?
It’s amazing what a simple swap out of a toilet system can do to the look and feel of your bathroom.

Eze-Flow Plumbing can remove and dispose of your old toilet suites and provide a new suite of your choosing. Our plumbers have done many toilet conversions from old cisterns to the modern rimless back to wall toilet suites, and more recently bidets!

At Eze- Flow Plumbing, the difference is:
